The new iPad Pro.
Introducing the most advanced iPad Pro ever and new Magic Keyboard.

Cupertino, California — Apple today announced its most advanced iPad Pro. Now with the A12Z Bionic chip, iPad Pro is faster and more powerful than most Windows PC laptops. The new iPad Pro adds an Ultra Wide camera, studio-quality mics and a breakthrough LiDAR Scanner that delivers cutting-edge depth-sensing capabilities, opening up more pro workflows and supporting pro photo and video apps. The LiDAR Scanner, along with pro cameras, motion sensors, pro performance, pro audio, the stunning Liquid Retina display and powerful apps, extends the lead of iPad Pro as the world’s best device for augmented reality (AR). The new iPad Pro is available to order starting today on iPadOS 13.4, Apple brings trackpad support to iPad, giving customers an all-new way to interact with their iPad. Rather than copying the experience from macOS, trackpad support has been completely reimagined for iPad. As users move their finger across the trackpad, the pointer elegantly transforms to highlight user interface elements. Multi-Touch gestures on the trackpad make it fast and easy to navigate the entire system without users ever lifting their hand.

We’re thrilled to bring this new way of interacting with iPad to the millions of people using iPadOS today.”

Pro Performance with A12Z Bionic Chip

Built for the most demanding tasks, like editing 4K video or designing 3D models, iPad Pro gets another performance boost with the new A12Z Bionic chip. The eight-core GPU in the A12Z Bionic, along with an enhanced thermal architecture and tuned performance controllers, gives iPad Pro the highest performance ever in an iPad. Combined with the eight-core CPU and the powerful Neural Engine, which enables next-generation apps, there’s no other chip that can offer the incredible performance found in the thin and light design of iPad Pro. With great battery life lasting up to 10 hours,1 faster Wi-Fi connectivity2 and gigabit-class LTE that’s 60 percent faster3 with support for more LTE bands than any other tablet, customers can stay productive and creative all day.

Pro Display

The edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display — in both 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes — is the world’s most advanced mobile display. Featuring P3 wide colour support, it lets customers see photos, videos, apps and games in vivid, true-to-life detail. ProMotion technology automatically adjusts the display refresh rate up to 120 Hz for ultra-smooth scrolling and responsiveness. And no matter where customers take iPad Pro or how they interact with it, True Tone, high brightness and an anti-reflective coating deliver the best viewing experience possible on any mobile device.

Pro Audio with Studio-Quality Mics

iPad Pro now features five studio-quality microphones for capturing super clean audio and the quietest details, and delivers an immersive sound experience with four-speaker audio that automatically adjusts to any orientation, no matter how it is held. The combination of pro cameras, pro audio and the large display make iPad Pro a versatile mobile studio for creative pros including filmmakers, video professionals, podcasters and other content creators.

Breakthrough LiDAR Scanner

The breakthrough LiDAR Scanner enables capabilities never before possible on any mobile device. The LiDAR Scanner measures the distance to surrounding objects up to 5 meters away, works both indoors and outdoors, and operates at the photon level at nano-second speeds. New depth frameworks in iPadOS combine depth points measured by the LiDAR Scanner, data from both cameras and motion sensors, and is enhanced by computer vision algorithms on the A12Z Bionic for a more detailed understanding of a scene. The tight integration of these elements enables a whole new class of AR experiences on iPad Pro.Every existing ARKit app automatically gets instant AR placement, improved motion capture and people occlusion. Using the latest update to ARKit with a new Scene Geometry API, developers can harness the power of the new LiDAR Scanner to unleash scenarios never before possible. The LiDAR Scanner improves the Measure app, making it faster and easier to automatically calculate someone’s height, while helpful vertical and edge guides automatically appear to let users more quickly and accurately measure objects. The Measure app also now comes with Ruler View for more granular measurements and allows users to save a list of all measurements, complete with screenshots for future use.

Complete Anatomy on iPad Pro.
The enhancements to ARKit and the depth sensor in the new iPad Pro have allowed the developers behind Complete Anatomy to introduce a new mobility assessment tool, later this year, for physical therapists and their patients by empowering them with quantified information on their progress, tracking their mobility improvements throughout their recovery.6
The IKEA app on the new iPad Pro.
The new Studio Mode for IKEA Place, available later this year, harnesses iPad Pro’s LiDAR Scanner and ARKit to go beyond placing individual furniture and start furnishing entire rooms intelligently in AR. With Studio Mode, people can explore different areas in their home to discover Room Sets, like you see in the IKEA Store, which complement their existing furniture, space and style.6
Hot Lava Apple Arcade game on iPad Pro.
The LiDAR Scanner on the new iPad Pro will enable Hot Lava’s new AR mode, available later this year, to transform your living room into a lava-filled obstacle course. This technology allows the game to interact with the real world like never before, blurring the lines between the physical and virtual world.6
The Shapr3D app on the new iPad Pro.
Later this year, Shapr3D, a professional CAD system based on Siemens Parasolid technology, will use the LiDAR Scanner to automatically generate an accurate 2D floor plan and 3D model of a room which can then be used as the basis to design remodels or room additions like a bathroom or closet. New designs can then be previewed in real-world scale using AR right in the room you scanned.6

Trackpad Support Comes to iPadOS

iPadOS 13.4 brings trackpad support to iPad for the first time for a more natural typing experience and added precision for tasks such as writing and selecting text, working with spreadsheets and pro workflows. Designed specifically for the touch-first experience on iPad, the cursor appears as a circle that highlights user interface elements, text fields and apps on the Home screen and Dock, giving a clear indication of what users can click on. Fluid gestures on the trackpad make it easy to switch between apps, access the app switcher and activate the Dock, Control Center and apps in Slide Over.Trackpad support in iPadOS is designed to work great with the apps customers use every day. From smoothly scrolling through web pages in Safari and photo libraries in Photos, to precisely editing text in Notes and quickly viewing and organising your email in Mail, it’s a joy to use a trackpad with iPad. Most third-party apps work with no change at all, and developers can go even further with new APIs that let them deliver unique experiences in their apps. Updates coming to Apple’s iWork suite of productivity apps — Pages, Numbers and Keynote — take full advantage of the trackpad and open up a whole new way to work with documents on iPad. Writing and editing text is a breeze in Pages, working with multiple objects in Keynote is easier than ever, and added levels of precision make working with even the largest spreadsheets a snap. Additional new features include gorgeous new templates in Pages and Keynote, giving users a head start on creating beautiful documents and, for the first time in iWork, users can add a drop cap to make a paragraph stand out with a large, decorative first letter. Collaboration will also become easier than ever with support for iCloud folder sharing and the ability to edit shared documents while offline.

Urbanista Paris True Wireless Earbuds

The Paris earbuds are sleek, stylish and compact. They’re affordable too, at £99. But don’t let the price put you off.

I’ve paired the earbuds to both iOS & Android devices with ease. And the sound quality is really good. I’ve used other brands at a higher price point that sound awful.

The Urbanista Paris Earbuds are in the balanced range of sound. They offer both a decent bass, and clear, crisp sound.

They charge via USB-C and offer a total playback time of 20 hours. With the case providing 4 charges – the buds last around 5 hours per charge.

The buds themselves have touch controls too, which offer music functionality (skip, etc) and volume control. As well voice assistant control – with Google Now & Siri.

Having used the Paris earbuds for a little while. I’ve not only learned all about this amazing Swedish brand. But I’ve been able to love them too.

If you’re looking for a pair of wireless earbuds, that don’t break the bank. Yet offer quality audio and a portable compact size. Look no further than the Urbanista Paris True Wireless Earbuds.

Microsoft Announce New Products

Microsoft announced a plethora of products today and one in particular got my attention.

Source: Microsoft

The Surface Pro X is Microsoft’s next-gen laptop/tablet hybrid. With a higher resolution 13in screen, the device coming in at only 5.3mm thick at its thinnest point and weighs 762g. It keeps the detachable keyboard from Microsoft’s existing product line, but introduces a new slim stylus that fits between the keyboard and tablet for charging and storage, wirelessly of course.

It uses a new SQ1 chip, and Microsoft said the chip is three times more powerful than the processor in the existing Surface Pro 6.

The Pro X has always-connected 4G and will start from £999 in the UK. Shipping in early November.

Microsoft also announced the Surface Pro 7. Which will use Intel’s 10th generation Core chips.

The addition of USB-C connectivity to the tablet means faster charging that will help the battery reach 80%, in about an hour.

The Surface Pro 7 will cost from £799 in the UK. And will ship on October 22nd.

Microsoft also refreshed their traditional laptops, including the 13.5in and a brand new 15in Surface Laptop 3.

The 13.5in Surface Laptop 3 comes in either aluminium or Microsoft’s fabric Alcantara finish, and has USB-C.

The larger 15in Surface Laptop 3 claims to have fastest graphics of any laptop in its class. Both laptops feature all-day battery life and Microsoft’s new fast-charging technology.

The 13in Surface Laptop 3 cost will start from £999 and the 15in version will start from £1,199. Both laptops will start shipping from October 22nd.

Microsoft also announced its own true wireless earbuds – Surface Earbuds – which will rival Apple’s AirPods & Samsung’s Galaxy Buds.

The earbuds feature one-click pairing, support multiple devices.

They can be connected to PCs, phones and tablets from all brands, while retaining up to 24-hour battery life with charging case – similar to the AirPods and Galaxy Buds cases – the Surface Earbuds contain a dual-mic array in each ear, which will help pick up the user’s voice.

They have Spotify integration and gesture controls for volume and playback.

The Surface Earbuds will cost $249 and ship later this year in the US. No word on UK pricing or release as of yet. But we can bet it’ll be £249.

Microsoft revealed the Surface Neo, a dual-screen table with a hinge in the middle. (Not a foldable screen)

The Neo will have a detachable keyboard (purchased separately?) and can be opened and used in many different forms. Thanks to it’s 360 degree foldable hinge.
It supports the Surface Pen – which attaches to the back of the device – and comes in at 5.6mm thick.

The Surface Neo will launch, Holiday 2020. (Yes, we know… say no more).

Source: Microsoft

Microsoft also unveiled the Surface Duo – a dual-screen folding phone, Which also is 360 degree foldable via a hinge in the middle of the two screens.

Talking of screens, the Duo has two 5.6in screens and will allow you to work on the device in a mixture of different ways, only this time, it will run on Android rather than Windows X.

Microsoft have partnered with Google to bring Android apps and the Play Store to the Duo. And will be interesting to see how apps will be displayed.

Could it be possible to run two separate apps on each of the screens? I normally lead up to the line “We won’t have long to find out.” But in this case, unfortunately we do. Microsoft will again launch the Surface Duo around Holiday 2020.
