fresh new look for kwmedia

After my website effectively broke, I looked at my options and decided to freshen things up a little.

So with that, the blog now has a clean light theme, a new logo, and all the unnecessary clutter removed.
Leaving you, the reader with a nicer looking and easier to read page.

I’ve also updated the twitter page with the new logo too. So we have consistency across the brand. Going forward I’ll start to publish and post more from the brand account. Leaving my personal account for any RT’ing to spread the word.

I’m also looking at bringing my other channels and brands into one, so that we have a single account / page to post from, rather than try to run and maintain multiple accounts. An example of this could be bringing News Byte to KWMedia, rather than them both being separate entitites.

All this is something that will take time. So bare with me while I create one singular super account.

Stay tuned and keep a look out for any updates on the blog or via the Twitter account.

Deliver us the moon delayed on stadia

Unfortunately, one of Stadia’s Pro games has been delayed.
Deliver Us The Moon was due to land on April 1st as part of the Pro lineup, but due to unknown reasons, this has sadly been delayed.

While no timeframe was given by Wired Productions – the publishing label. They did say they would update everyone with a new launch date as soon as one had been arranged.

So hold on to that space suit just a little longer, it won’t be long until you’re on the moon!

Stadia Gets Invite-Less Multiplayer

By @GadgetsKev

The team at Stadia have added a new feature, that allows players to join select games without the need for an invite.

This means that should you be playing Far Cry 6 (One of the supported games) for example, you’re friend will be able to jump in with you, just by joining via your Stadia profile page.

It’s a nice feature to add, and will make joining friends in-game, much simpler.

It’s worth noting that this feature is said to be off by default. Although @TomWarren From the @Verge points out that this was on by defult for one of their Stadia accounts.

You can read more regarding the process for enabling / disabling below:

Let players join your multiplayer game without an invite

Multiplayer games like Far Cry 6 let other players join your game directly from your profile without an invite from you. This feature, available only in select games, is off by default.

To enable it, go into your privacy settings under “Your activity” and “Current game” , then turn on Join your current game. To change who can join games from your profile, choose All players or Friends. Only players in the group you select will be able to join your game.

Stop players from joining

If you don’t want other players to join your game without an invite, go into your privacy settings under “Your activity”,

“Current game” then turn off Join your current game. You can also select Only you or Private in the dropdown menu.

Google To Wind Down SG&E Studios

Google have confirmed that it will no longer be expanding into its 1st party games studio; SG&E (Stadia Games & Entertainment). The news comes as a bit of a shock to the community, but one that I feel does make sense.

While this may come as a dissapointment to many. Game developing costs a lot of money. And even from one of the richest companies in the world, Google still has to make decsions based on financial loss. So the decsion to save money and invest into 2nd and 3rd party games just makes more sense right now.

Did I want to see native cloud games from the Stadia team? Of course.
Will it affect me playing on Stadia? Absolutely not.

Stadia still works perfectly for me, and has continued to grow and expand. This is definitely the future of gaming, and if it means we get games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, Howarts Legacy and Gotham Knights, then I’m all for it. The future is cloud and we get to experience that right now, without the need to put money down for expensive hardware.

The Stadia team have confirmed a sort of road map for 2021, and are hard at work getting games on the platform for 2022 and beyond. But lets focus on the now and just enjoy playing our games, with no downloads, no updates and no waiting.

Read the full press release below:

We launched Stadia with the goal of making your favorite games instantly available wherever you want to play them. With the recent successful launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on Stadia, gameplay on all types of devices, including iOS, growing our slate of YouTube integrations, and our global expansions, it’s clear that Stadia’s technology has been proven and works at scale. Having games streamed to any screen is the future of this industry, and we’ll continue to invest in Stadia and its underlying platform to provide the best cloud gaming experience for our partners and the gaming community. This has been the vision of Stadia since the beginning.

In 2021, we’re expanding our efforts to help game developers and publishers take advantage of our platform technology and deliver games directly to their players. We see an important opportunity to work with partners seeking a gaming solution all built on Stadia’s advanced technical infrastructure and platform tools. We believe this is the best path to building Stadia into a long-term, sustainable business that helps grow the industry.

Creating best-in-class games from the ground up takes many years and significant investment, and the cost is going up exponentially. Given our focus on building on the proven technology of Stadia as well as deepening our business partnerships, we’ve decided that we will not be investing further in bringing exclusive content from our internal development team SG&E, beyond any near-term planned games. With the increased focus on using our technology platform for industry partners, Jade Raymond has decided to leave Google to pursue other opportunities. We greatly appreciate Jade’s contribution to Stadia and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. Over the coming months, most of the SG&E team will be moving on to new roles. We’re committed to working with this talented team to find new roles and support them.

What does this mean if you’re a current or future Stadia gamer? You can continue playing all your games on Stadia and Stadia Pro, and we’ll continue to bring new titles from third parties to the platform. We’re committed to the future of cloud gaming, and will continue to do our part to drive this industry forward. Our goal remains focused on creating the best possible platform for gamers and technology for our partners, bringing these experiences to life for people everywhere.
