Lenovo Delivers 5G Computing On EE

Lenovo Yoga™ 5G PC will be exclusively available in the UK via EE

Lenovo is blazing a path for mass adoption of ultra-fast, low-latency laptop connectivity through mobile network operator EE, who are committed to making 5G computing a reality for consumers in the UK.

On the heels of the CES unveiling the Lenovo Yoga 5G—the world’s first 5G PC1— Lenovo has formed a strategic partnership with EE, which has 5G in more places than any other UK operator. Powered by the Qualcomm®️ Snapdragon™ 8cx 5G compute platform, the Yoga 5G laptop delivers high-speed 5G network connectivity that is up to 10 times faster than 4G.2

“Lenovo introduced the world’s first 5G laptop1 to equip the mobile generation with smarter technology for always-on connectivity and computing. The hardware is just the first step,” says Johnson Jia, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Consumer Business Segment in Lenovo’s Intelligent Devices Group. “With our strategic partnerships with 5G network carriers such as EE, consumers will now be able to access easier, faster and more secure connectivity seamlessly. As 5G computing holds the power to transform user experiences, we believe it can ultimately disrupt the PC industry for the better.”

EE was the first operator to launch 5G in the UK, with EE’s service now available in 80 cities and large towns across the UK. EE’s 5G network achieved the highest 5G availability compared to all other 5G networks, in eight major UK cities in independent testing from RootMetrics by IHS Markit, and EE has also been named the UK’s best network in the UK for 6 years in a row by RootMetrics. EE customers also have access to the biggest and fastest 4G network in the country for additional superfast connectivity.

Marc Allera, CEO, BT Consumer division said “Our customers already enjoy the UK’s best mobile experience, and as leaders in 5G, those with the Lenovo Yoga 5G on EE will be able to make the most from our super-fast, high capacity network. As Lenovo’s exclusive partner in the UK, we will help customers get to grips with what this innovative PC has to offer on the go, whether that’s for work, online gaming, or watching the latest HD movies”.

As the world’s first 5G PC,1 the Yoga 5G convertible laptop with Windows 10 offers high speeds with ultra-fast connectivity, reduced latency and wider bandwidth even in crowded areas. It lets users stay online when on the go2 with a massive up-to-24-hour battery life,3 thanks to the efficiency of the Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform. Enrico Salvatori SVP & Pres, Qualcomm Europe/MEA said “This collaboration with Lenovo and EE will deliver transformative PC user experiences for consumers thanks to the Qualcomm®️ Snapdragon™ 8cx 5G compute platform’s performance and power efficiency, combined with the high speed, low-latency connectivity made possible by 5G from EE”

With the introduction of 5G network support, the effortlessly portable Yoga 5G is now an accessible alternative for mobile multitaskers and road warriors who need faster and more reliable connectivity options when streaming, real-time collaborating, video-chatting, gaming or file-transferring when not connected to secure, stable WiFi.

To make the Yoga 5G laptop possible, Lenovo engineers and designers had to overcome a number of practical challenges in housing this new technology in a thin, light and convertible 2-in-1 form factor. This involved shrinking the 5G antennas to fit into a slim chassis while enabling and maintaining 5G coverage regardless of how a user flips and folds the device into its laptop or tablet mode. The Lenovo team ultimately achieved this by innovating and patenting a new 5G antenna system—what became the industry’s smallest 5G module4— a design that allowed for 5G coverage in both laptop or tablet modes.

The Lenovo Yoga 5G laptop will have 5G network coverage provided by our partner EE in the UK.

Pricing and Availability5

  • In the U.K, the Lenovo Yoga 5G laptop will be available later this year on a range of EE pay monthly price plans. Further details will be announced in due course.

Motorola RAZR UK Launch Event

I was lucky enough to attend the UK launch event for the new Motorola RAZR smartphone.

This was Motorola’s first reinvented smartphone, with a fully flexible & folding display.

I made a short video (below) capturing some of phone.

The Moto RAZR can be exclusively purchased on contract within the UK via EE.

Motorola Announce The Foldable RAZR

It had been rumoured for a while, and many leaks came out in the run up to its official announcement. But finally, it’s here, Motorola have revealed the new RAZR phone that folds in the right way(?).

Instead of a phone that unfolds into a tablet, Motorola have made a phone that folds to a smaller, compact size. This to me is much more appealing, though don’t get me wrong, a phone that opens to a tablet size is nice – I just don’t think it offers the full potential as say, an iPad Pro for example.

But let’s not dwell on that, the RAZR phone is what we’re here for – I remember the original and I remember the iterations that followed. I had two RAZR models (the V3 & V3i), and they literally were the best stylish clam shell phone you could buy at the time.

The smart metallic keyboard and that very sexy design overall. It was just a stunning phone to have.

But now, we’re in 2019 and it’s all about moving forward – I’d say Motorola have definitely done this, while maintaining the very thing that made the original RAZR what it was. And that was it’s design.

The new RAZR phone offers a very familiar blast-from-the-past design, while the flexible futuristic foldable display is like something you’d expect Captain Kirk to whip out his trouser pocket.

I haven’t had a chance to see the phone in person yet, but I already know that the nostalgic feel of this iconic phone is sure to sit well with me.

I know right now, the price leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth – at an estimated £1,500. It’s a very steep price to pay. But on the other hand, I get why they’ve gone down this road. You see, Motorola are normally King at selling you a high-end phone, for a mid-range (or lower) price. But with the new RAZR, it’s different, but not. It’s stylish and extremely portable. It’s a futuristic phone, available now (well, from December onwards). They’re going up against Samsung and Huawei. So maybe the price had to match too?

Originally, it was rumoured to be limited in quantity. But in the UK – EE are it’s exclusive network partner. And that’ll be for 24 month contracts only. Which tells me it won’t be a limited phone – so what sort of monthly cost will this £1,500 phone set you back?

As soon as the pricing goes live, I’ll update this page.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

The Motorola E6 Plus is part of the low-end affordable range of E-series smartphones.

Upon opening the box, you’ll be greeted with a large display, and in my case a very polished graphite back case.

The colour looks really nice (but because of the mirrored finished, you will notice fingerprints quite easy).

Talking of fingerprints, you also get a fingerprint reader on the back – which is great considering the price range of the phone.

The display is large – at 6.1 inch – and is the HD+ Max Vision, that Motorola put on most of there phones.

You’ll also get a dual camera setup on the E6 Plus – a 13MP main camera, as well as a secondary 2MP lens.

On the front, you’ll find an 8MP snapper for those all important selfies.

Taking the back panel off the phone, you’ll get nostalgic over a large 3000mAh REMOVABLE battery. The battery size alone is larger than most high end smartphones, so to get it on the E6 Plus was quite a surprise – but a welcome one at that.

Under the hood, there’s a 2Ghz Octa-core processor, 2GB of Ram, 32GB of onboard storage, a dedicated SD card slot (for up to 512GB), Android 9.0 (Pie) out of the box, a headphone jack, micro USB charging and 4G.

All this and plenty more, for a very reasonable £99.

If you’re in the market for an affordable phone, with some decent specs, look no further than the E6 Plus. You’ll be very surprised at what you get for your money. And I personally, would recommend this for use to any first time buyers of a smartphone – and have no doubt in my mind, they’ll be able to do everything you would expect and more from this little-big phone.

The phone can purchased through my Amazon Affiliate link below. Any items purchased via my link will earn me a small percentage, which helps support both my website costs and other channels.

***ORIGINAL POST BELOW***

As I get ready for a triple(?) phone announcement from Motorola.

What Motorola will reveal, we’re about to find out.

We’re at an amazing venue – Swingers West End – and the room is now filling.

Drinks & food are flowing… it’s like a buffet of food and media laptops – we have media representatives from various news companies, including; T3, The Verge & Digital Trends. Many faces I recognise!

There must be something big coming to have this kind of coverage.. (could we get a Razr announcement today(?). I doubt it, what with the 13th November being pencilled as the official tease and that tag line “you’re going to flip”.

So I think today will be reserved, for the next high end smartphones that Motorola (& Lenovo) have been working on.

As soon as the embargo is lifted, you’ll see updates galore.

Motorola One Action Review

The One Action is a follow-up to the One Vision, only this time it really is all about the action.

Lenovo provided the One Action to take to Berlin, for IFA 2019. So big thank you to them.

DESIGN

The design is very similar to the Vision, sleek, solid and with the addition of the 3rd wide-angle lens.

You’ll get that nice curved edge, which feels comfortable to hold. And a case to get the grip – without the case, it’s very silky smooth and you’ll find, it slides off the arm of a sofa.

The front of the phone was all display, with minimal bezels showing. And a camera cutout, to the top left of the display.

CAMERA

The front facing camera houses a 12MP sensor, which captures some great selfies thanks to the quad-pixel technology – this drastically improves the sensor to capture more detail.

The camera has various photo & video modes.
HDR can be turned on & off. As well as “Active Photos”.

The rear camera setup houses a 16MP 117 degree ultra-wide action cam, a 12MP main sensor and a 5MP depth sensing.

Combine these 3 and you have a smartphone capable of capturing your “go-pro like” moments. All from a smartphone. Something he One Action does really well, is capture landscape video while holding the phone in portrait

This makes it very comfortable to hold for long periods of time. And I found it offers you better stability too.

DISPLAY

The One Action has the same 6.3” CinemaVision (LTPS IPS LCD) Display, as the one vision and an aspect ratio of 21:9. The display shows vivid & accurate colour. And I still believe it looks as good as OLED.

PERFORMANCE, UI & OS

The phone comes pre-loaded with Android 9.0 (Pie) and just happens to be part of Android One ecosystem, so expect timely Nexus/Pixel-like updates and an operating system to match.

Motorola have a very clean interface, no bloatware and very minimal apps. Only Google’s offering being pre-installed. And one or two Motorola apps.

You get decent performance straight off the bat, with a 2.2 Ghz Octa-core processor, 4GB ram and 128GB of internal storage. Which happens to be expandable via MicroSD.

All this coupled with a minimalistic UI, means you’ll have no issues with lag when using this phone.

BATTERY

The One Action has a 3500 mAh battery and charges at at 10W with the included USB-C charging cable . The battery lasts a full day very easily.

CONCLUSION

The Motorola One Action is a mid range smartphone, but feels more high-end due to its performance, display and camera capabilities.

The phone costs an impressive £219 in the UK. Which gives it a very competent edge over the competition.

All photos shown, were taken on the Motorola One Action.

If you’d like to buy the Motorola One Action, you can get it from Lenovo’s website here.
